School Visits

I LOVE school visits! Without the positive and supportive experiences I had at school, there would be no Daughters of the Lamp series.

To schedule an in-person or virtual visit, please contact How Now Booking. I can’t wait to have a conversation with your students about the process of writing a novel, from the sparks of inspiration to the countless revisions on the road to publication, and engage them in memorable workshops that align with their writing goals.

Below are descriptions of the assembly presentation and writing workshop I offer as part of visits:

Assembly Presentation

This presentation will include a discussion of what children can expect when they read the Daughters of the Lamp series and the inspiration for the world and characters. It will also cover my writing journey—its roots in childhood and how my decision to write a novel came out of a period of immense transition. I will talk to students about the importance of embracing change even when the future is uncertain. We will also discuss the small steps that go into writing a novel and the importance of honing craft and revision in this process. Finally, I will conclude with a Q&A (I love this part!).

Writing Workshop

The writing workshop will break down the essential components of a novel: plot, setting, character, and conflict. We will discuss examples of these components in books students have read as well as in my novels. Students will have an opportunity to brainstorm ideas for each of these building blocks so that they leave the workshop with the foundation of a story they can continue to craft. Workshops can be tailored to meet your students’ reading and writing goals.
