Little Sunbird
CALLING ALL TEACHERS, LIBRARIANS, AND PARENTS:
One of the things I miss most about teaching is reading aloud to my students. Particularly, during difficult times. Sacred and healing are the words that come to mind when I think of those moments. I wrote the story of Little Sunbird shortly after October 7th as a way to process my own complicated feelings, including how important it is now more than ever to see each other—to TRULY see each other—and to hold more than one truth in our hearts.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to read it aloud to both my daughters. It is my hope that you will do the same with your own students and children.
HERE’S WHERE YOU COME IN: You will notice there are no illustrations. Not yet, at least. I would LOVE those to come from the children themselves. Reach out to me using my contact form about sending illustrations your kids create for one, two, or as many pages as they would like. I will email you back with uploading directions. And if you record yourself or your children reading, PLEASE send them along, too. Ultimately, I would love to repost the video and include those art and recordings. Thank you for taking the time to read/listen to Little Sunbird.
Fellow authors- Please share with the teachers, librarians, and parents in your lives.
